First Grade

A few weeks ago, Maddi started first grade.

Had to let that sink in just a little, becasuse the memories I have of holding her as an infant and thinking OH MY GOD, HOT POTATO! are distinct.

We walked her to class on her first day, which means we all woke up early, showered, AND got dressed all before 7:30. This upset our normal morning routine just a bit as I normally slip on pants and take her wearing the shirt I slept in. We stopped and took a few pictures in front of the school which were "a little emberassing, MOM" and then we walked her into her classroom. We put her lunch box and backpack on the wall-hanger outside of her room and then helped her get settled into her desk. She hugged us both and then waved goodbye.
One of my favorite memories was that day, as she smiled sheepishly to her classmates and hugged us goodbye. Such a wonderful little girl that we're so blessed with.

She has Mrs. Maddox for a teacher and loves her to death. Every day is better than the previous one and she is learning so much already. This week she got the Proud Panther award and got to decorate a poster about herself and gets some special time hanging out with the principal this week.

Macy also went to her first daycare last week. Josh and I both worked, and my parents had to go out of town so she went to a little daycare for a few hours. I thought this would be good for her. If you follow this blog, you know she has some crazy seperation issues. Like the time the nursery worker had to come get us from working out becuase she was crying and gagging herself.

Good times!

I called several times to check on her and they said she was doing well for her first day. AND, she even laid down and took a nap on her nap mat. However, I haven't called and signed her up for another day because she's had a runny nose and diarrhea ever since. You win, Macy.

That time we went school shopping

Yesterday, I decided to take both girls to Walmart and get Maddi's school supplies.

You know, like less than a week before school starts.

I've been working hard, PEOPLE.

Apparently, the rest of the world decided to also. It started out great, picking out her favorite pink glittery pencils, puppy dog notepads, and twistable markers. UNTIL we had to pick out the folders. She needed 2 each of red, blue, yellow, and green. She WANTED the pink one with the rainbow and the barbie. And because she was born with this lovely personality trait that she inherited from her father, SHE MUST GET EVERYTHING PERFECT. And when she doesn't, she gets very upset.

So I tried telling her about the time that daddy went skiing but DID NOT KNOW HOW TO SKI. And he wasn't very good at it and ended up knocking several people the same one person down over and over again, got stuck in an orange netted fence, and then threw his snowboard down and knocked over everyone elses skiis. BUT, this only got her mind off of NOT HAVING THAT PERFECT FOLDER, for a second.

And she went back to crossing her arms and scowling because she'd be the only one with ugly PLAIN PRIMARY colored folders. And then she complained about everything else afterwards (walking, breathing, HAVING to blink her eyes.)

And then the snowball started.

She had gotten so worked up and had forgotten what made her mad in the first place and then started talking about another ten things she had picked up as she started spiraling out of control: we never took her to six flags, we always make her wear clothes, we won't get her an iPhone.

So I made her stand by the buggy and not say a word for five minutes. Thinking, MAYBE, she'd calm down, and "now that it's quiet, I can think clearly, and my mom is totally right"

Or something like that.

FINALLY, we get to the check out line. Maddi is crying. Macy is holding my keys and chewing on a dollar bill. AND we're backing up the line because I can't find my checkbook.

I have become THAT woman.

Good Morning Maddi

My alarm went off  this morning at 7. I yawned and stretched for a while then fell out of bed around 7:25. Maddi was up and getting ready for her dentist appointment. Since she's six years old now, she is able to get up by herself, gets herself dressed, and get herself something to drink.

Parents of toddlers: YOUR FUTURE IS AWESOME.

Once we were ready, we headed to her dentist appointment to get a filling. At least that's what we thought!
Maddi has teeth just like mine and they're way too close together and there is no room for her permanent teeth to come in. Which is why her baby teeth didn't fall out, her permanent teeth are just starting to grow BEHIND them.  SO, while the dentist already had her mouth numbed, she pulled her bottom teeth. ALL FOUR OF THEM. Because not only do we not have any room for our baby teeth, our permanent teeth are HUGE.

Our dentists bank account would like to thank this lovely gene pool.

So now were back home. Weaning off the sweet air also known as nitrous oxide. Which by the way can not be converted into a liquid and then poured into a bottle for a teething 14 month old.

Here are the pictures she wanted everyone to see!

While we were waiting on the dentist.

Right when we got home.
Just a little bit of bloody drool.

Ouch!
See her two permanent teeth back there?
They should now have room to move forward!

Our Home

I hope everyone had a great Fathers day! I am so blessed with the father, grandfather, and husband in my life! Love them so much. We don't do too much for Mothers Day, not because I'm a selfless angel, but because if we don't go all out on Mother's Day, we don't HAVE to go all out on Fathers Day. See how that works?

We grilled burgers, ate way too much pie, and played dominoes with family. I LOVE my husband and am so grateful for the love he has for our girls.

I had to go to Tyler today to pick up a few things from our house and go by the bank. Last time we left the house we were all in a hurry, trying to clean and move out.

I went back today for the first time in a few weeks. It was so quiet. So clean. Wasn't it just yesterday that I laid my sweet little infant into that crib? Or tucked Maddi into her little iron bed the night before Kindergarten. I hadn't realized how much I'd miss that house and all the sweet memories we'd leave behind.

SO, here is a list of the top ten things I miss about our home and Tyler in general. Come on, you knew this was coming.

1. The pitter patter of feet (and knees, Macy!) across the wood floor that creaked early in the morning.

2. Painting, re-decorating, and rearranging while Macy sat in her swing on the back porch.

3. Laying the kids down and rocking on the back porch with my husband. Talking about our girls, school, and          if I was lucky, ACCOUNTING.

4. Watching Maddi run As Fast As She Could up the sidewalk when she got dropped off from school.

5.Working out, eating lunch, and laughing with Allison Carr.

6.Walking around the neighborhood with Josh and the girls. Smiling at each other watching Maddi ride her bike down the hill.

7. Arguing with Josh about who has to drop Macy off in the nursery THIS time.

8. Fresh, The Potpourri House, and Stanleys

9. Rocking my 10 week old Macy outside for way too long most days, because there was just nothing better to do.

10. Being only about 40 minutes away from Canton.

11. Wearing my pajamas all day long.

I had to add that one.

We're enjoying Longview ALOT and enjoy being so close to friends and family. Maddi has made several new friends in the neighborhood and is at her first sleepover tonight! She loves it here. Macy is standing up but still refuses to take a step. AND Josh and I both love our jobs.

I'll be off orientation next week and then I can go back working my usual one-to-two days/week. I love getting to stay home with my kids but work is such a nice break. REAL. LIVE. PEOPLE. who don't throw themselves on the floor and cry about having to wipe.
